My Zodiac Quilt is done, My Candles are done.

Hello fellow Crafters,

I have completed my Zodiac quilt. I made my own binding for it as well.
I am not a professional nor am I a spokes person for any of the products that I used to create my quilt. Remember this is my very first quilt.

How I made my Zodiac Quilt.
Finish Quilt is 37 in long by 19 inches wide.
I used fat quarters and cut them down to 6x6 12
same fat quarters 2in x6in rectangles 15
Same fat quarters 2in by 6in folded in half for Hanging loops. 4
I used fat quarter charms that were 5x5 for the zodiac signs 12
I used one quarter charm to cut out a mermaid for one of the zodiac signs.
Reduced one of the zodiac signs to use with the mermaid.
I bought fabric yellow cotton 1 yd backing of quilt
I bought fabric purple cotton 11/2 yards. Bias binding for around the sides of the quilt to in case the sides and finish it off.
I use a off white light tan cotton thread.
I used purple quilting thread
Red cotton thread
blue cotton thread
I used low loft batting.
I use the applique sheet for the brother scan N cut.
I used the Brother High tack fabric sheet for 12x12
I used Brother standard mat
I used Brother stand blade. One set aside especially for cutting fabric.
I used stick on rhinestones and glued on star sequence.
I used cricut and scan n cut gold glitter iron on vinyl.
I used my Singer 9970 computerized sewing machine.
I used my Brother Scan n Cut 650w plus the zodiac designs found in the machine.
I cut out all my designs, fabric squares, rectangle shapes and loops with my brother scan n cut.
I cut everything out that I need with my Brother Scan n Cut. Ironed on my zodiac signs, All my glitter vinyl designs  names dates and symbols. I then sew all the pieces together to make my top of my quilt.
I cut my yellow backing and my low loft batting a bit larger then my front of my quilt. I then pinned it together wrong sides together. I made a fabric sandwich with my fabric. Top layer, batting, back layer fabric. I sew all around and then cut off the what was excess. I then measured my quilt for my bias binding cut it then ironed my sides and ironed down the middle. I made around 5yards. I needed around 31/2 yards.  I cut my loops using a rectangle found in the basic shapes of my scan n cut. I made the rectangle 2inchs high by 6 inches wide I cut 4. I then cut out the names of the elements for each sign in red blue silver and green glitter. I sewed up my loops then iron on the glitter.
I sewed on my bias binding and my loops and now my quilt is done.

I am also going to show you some of the other things I have been working on. First up remember the candles I was working on? I have them completed as well.

How I made my painted candles.
I used my Brother Scan n Cut to cut out the rose and ivy design found with in the stencil design of my Brother Scan n Cut. I then cut them out on white card stock and taped them on to the candle and use blue, red, purple, and orange and green acrylic water based paints. I then dabbed the colors on to each appropriate stencil area.  Here is the end result.

I have several other projects in the works but will save that for another day.
Thank you for reading and looking at my crafty items.

Things that I am working on in between making my zodiac quilt.

Hello there,
I am still working on my candles. I am now adding in an ivy vine cut from my Brother Scan n Cut and stenciling it around the front and back of each candle. I am doing it in green and I will post a picture of my candles when I am done with them. Thanks for reading if you have.

Hello all you crafties,

I am working on some new projects as I am taking a break from my quilt.
What I am doing is I am painting candles and working on my little screen print paintings as well.

I posted about the candles yesterday and stated that I was trying to get a design on one.  Here is a quick idea of what happened.

I made a stencil of a rose found with in my Brother Scan n cut the stencil file where there are lots of stencil designs. I cut out my rose perfect size for the front of my candle. I taped it down and then started to paint it in with purple acrylic paint.

I did that and then left it to dry. That is where all the mishap came in. When I took the stencil off of the candle after the paint dried. Some of the paint stuck to the stencil hence removing it from my candle. When the stencil was completely removed the candle only had part of the rose design left on it. I then washed off the design and started again.

I made a new stencil and taped it down on to the candle.  This time I used an incising tool and traced the out line of the rose design on to the candle. When I was done I then removed the stencil and proceeded to hand paint in the rose design.

I then made another stencil of the same design. I taped it down again and processed to use a sponge and pounced the paint on to the stencil. In stead of letting the paint dry I immediately removed the stencil and my stencil came out pretty good. I made one rose blue and the other rose red.

I am going to repeat the stencil and sponge process on the other side of each candle one rose is blue and the back rose will be purple. On the candle with the red rose I might make that one pink or yellow not sure yet.

I am also thinking of doing a small rose boarder around the bottom of the candle. There is also a stencil of small roses in the stencil file. I could make them coordinating colors or do blue and purple and pink and red.
Here is a picture of the started and painted candles. I also show my paper stencil design that is found with in my brother scan n cut. This first picture is the first process placing the created stencil on the candle.

The second picture is of taping down the candle. the third picture is my first attempt at coloring my candle. I painted purple and then waited to remove the stencil when part of my design also came away with the stencil.

The forth picture is of the rose design incised and painted blue. The red rose is used with stencil and sponge dabbers. The little white card is my stencil design. After they have dried at least 24 hours for good measure I will do some detail and then let that dry and do the back side roses and the little rose boarder.
Happy crafting
