What I am up to with my crafting and my Brother Scan N Cut♥

 Hello there fellow crafters,
Just an up date to let you all know that I did sew my quilt together and all I have to do now is sew on the binding around the sides of the quilt and then sew on the finished loops that will be used to slip a dowel threw. Once I have that done I will post up the picture of it finished. The quilt did come out pretty good if I say so myself. I am going to see if I can make my own binding with my Singer binding makers. I am thinking at least a 1.5 inch binding but we will see.
Thanks for reading if you have.

Hello all you fellow craftiers,

I am starting a new project and I am here to mention something. I bought a new tool set for my Brother Scan N Cut. I bought the Cricut Brayer and tweezers set. Yes you read that correctly Cricut tools for my Brother Scan N Cut. I also bought Cricut multi pack of iron on foil.

I bought the Cricut set because it was available at Michael's craft store in my area. I purchased because I felt the price was better then just buying one item from Brother. Brother also sells a Brayer, the same as the cricut. Same size around 4 inches wide and a bit different in color. Cricut included a pick up tweezers with the brayer, Brother does not.

Today I used the Brayer to roll over my card stock on my cutting mat to adhere it to the mat better then just rubbing it over with my hand or using the little spatula that came with my cm650w.

I found that when I just used my hands to rub it down it would release in the bottom corner of the mat. I would also use the spatula and rub it in and press hard to have it stick properly. I still would get a bottom corner release on me. I have even had in my past experience with my mats all mats low tack, standard and middle tack mat. That as I was starting to cut a design it would suddenly start to slid around and not cut my design properly. That would be a tell tale sign that I needed to clean my mat with baby wipes.

I use my mats a lot and when I find them losing their stickiness I would normally use a baby wipe and clean all the residue from paper and other materials. I find that 9 times out of 10 the baby wipe would renew the stickiness on the mat. As time would go in and I would continue to use my mats eventually the stickiness would seem to wear away. I would then use a Zig glue stick to replenish the stickiness on my now over a year old used mats.

I have been using my middle tack mat straight for the past 6 or so months. I have been using it for cutting card stock and glitter vinyl and making 3d projects. So far so good everything is sticking fine.
With the new Brayer I find that my card stock stuck better then ever. I am seriously blown away at something so trivial yet something so useful and easy to use.

I am working on a hanging quilt and it will take a while to do it. I will be using my Scan n Cut to cut out my applique pieces and then to cut out my square pieces. There are 140 quilt designs in the Scan N Cut CM550/550dx. 140 quilt designs in the CM650w. I have both of these machines and the designs are the same in both machines in number and in design.

I would like to at this time say something about the Brother Scan N Cut Foiling kit. I am from the U.S. and we Brother Scan n Cut owners do not have the ability to foil with our machines. With that said there are other countries that have the update and they have been foiling for almost a year if not a full year now.

I really feel very sad about not being equal in all matters of the Brother Scan n Cut.
I have many things and there are many designs that are perfect for foiling.  I am so sorry to be left out of that part of Brother Scan N Cut.

We here in the states are truly missing something that our machines can do. I am hoping that Brother will finally give us that update so we too can enjoy in the fun and beauty of foiling our cards and projects just like the rest of the world.

A note on Cricut, most of Cricut's cutting products will work on the Brother Scan n Cut. I personally have used Cricut iron on vinyl, window cling, glitter iron vinyl, and I have purchased the poster board. I have not used it yet but I am sure it will cut just as nice as the other products.

I will post up a picture of the Cricut Brayer and the Tweezers at another time to give an idea of what they look like. I also have the Cricut 5 piece tool set and I really like that as well.

At the end of the day. I love my Brother Scan N Cut and I personally find it a fabulous machine and it has seriously brought me to another level of crafting that I would not think possible and or probable.

Look for more future blogs from me. I know at this time I am the only one reading these blogs I have created to discuss about my crafting. That is ok if you are reading these blogs thanks a million. I am happy to share my silliness and my crafting.

Update on my zodiac quilt. I have the front fabric sewed and ready to attach to a back fabric which I need to pick out and purchase. I will also have to make the boarder for around the quilt. Not sure yet if it will be a multi colored boarder or a solid color boarder. Or will match the back fabric. I know the loops to hold it  will be different colors pick out from the quilt. Then I will insert a dowel in to the loops to hang it when it is all done.

I added some glue on rhinestones and pearls. I even colored the pearl for the Gemini twins in a dark blue. I also glued on some star sequence. Here is a picture of where I am now with my quilt.

Hello Craftiers
I bought the fabric for the binding and the backing of my quilt. I bought 2 yards of yellow Polycotton. I also bought a yard and a half of purple Polycotton. the yellow will be the backing and the purple will be the binding. I also made my hanging tabs for the quilt. I made four of the tabs all in different colors. I will use a very light low loft for the batting.

I will sew the element names on the tabs for each zodiac sign. Each sign falls under a universal element. Fire, Earth, Wind and Water. these elements are incorporated in many things metaphysical. Each element in this case represent three each of the zodiac sign. starting with the first sign and the first element. You can find this information out on the internet if you wish to see what element your sign falls under and what it means.

Here is a picture of the fabric, with the hanging tabs they are sewed and ready for cutting off the little end at each turn section of the tab. Then turned right side out and the names of each element sewn on. I will post a picture of them too when they are complete.

thanks for reading if you have

Here is a picture of my Cricut Brayer and tweezers and the Cricut 5 piece tool set. I really like all the pieces. I like the roller and its pick up tweezers very much. I think this was a great Idea for adhering the card stock or fabric or what ever media you are using. Works very well indeed.

The next set of pictures is the start of my zodiac quilt. I used the zodiac signs found within the Brother Scan n Cut. I also used from the Brother Scan n Cut the  basic shapes file the square and the rectangle. I also drew the quarter inch sew line with the Brother fabric marker on to each one of my shapes.

I cut out 24 shapes plus twelve zodiac signs using my Brother Scan n Cut and the applique sheet and Terial Magic fabric stabilizer. I did not use it on the square or rectangle because I used the High tack fabric sheet by Brother scan n cut. I will be cutting the name of each sign and the date of each sign in Brother iron on gold glitter vinyl. then I will be adding in some rhinestones and fake gems to give it a more finished look instead of the designs being so plan.

I still have to cut out the binding for the finished quilt. That will be done when I determine the actual finished size of the quilt. It will be a hanging quilt so I will also add three rod pocket strips to the quilt before completion.

There are 140 quilt designs found within the Brother Scan n Cut machines. One day I will cut out a set to make a block. Each set design makes a complete block so you can make as many as your project needs and you can cut each block design in different colors ore each individual design to that block in different colors. I find it all very fascinating and amazing.

I know that mothers like mine would have loved this machine just for that alone.  The last picture a test of the name and date designs. I used Virgo to test with. I made the names and dates in the Scan n Cut Design Space. I will do them in the reverse as to iron them on.What I showed you in the last picture looks more like a stencil. I will use the letters from each cut to iron on to each square. I am only using that part of it to figure out correct placement and correct size. I will be using the actual letters cut from the name and date designs.

Here is the start of my quilt.

Hope you have enjoyed this if you have read it. Please leave a comment in the comment area and remember to add me to your following list.

I am working on my Zodiac quilt. I started to place the names and dates on the squares. Unfortunately for me I am out of gold glitter vinyl. Therefore I had to order more. I just cannot go to the local craft store to purchase do to the weather. I will get it in very soon and I will be back at the cutting of the  glitter vinyl with my Brother Scan n Cut. I did the first four of the Zodiac signs Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer.
Here is a picture of what I have started. I just have eight more to do.

I made this picture bigger so you could see the names on the squares. Watch here for more pictures and news of my zodiac quilt.

March 13, 2018

I am going to continue on with the zodiac quilt. I did get in my vinyl iron on gold glitter. The first zodiac signs are done with the Brother Scan N Cut gold vinyl iron on glitter. This time I am using Cricut vinyl iron gold glitter as I found it on sale. I have now completed that stage of the squares.
I am showing two pictures. the first one is the quilt squares laid out. The second one is with the little rectangle shapes that will be added to each square before I really sew it all together.

My next stage will be to sew the rectangles on to each square. Then I will sew it all together. I will then decide what little gem bits I will be adding in. Mostly the rhinestones for eyes of the animal shaped zodiac signs. I will be adding in a little pearl for the Gemini twins.

Today I decided I was going to add an applique of sorts to the strips under each sign. I know you do not see any strips under the last set of three zodiac signs. I do have them cut and had really thought to leave them off as I am going to bind this hanging quilt.

What I am going to do is use the Cricut iron on gold glitter again and put the symbols of the signs on the strips. They are like hieroglyph designs of the zodiac and I though it would look fitting to place them on each strip for each sign.

Here are the symbols I am referring too.

FYI Cricut iron on vinyls cut wonderfully on my Brother Scan N Cut.

Then once that is all done then I will pick out my back fabric and make my hanging tabs. As you see still a ways to go before it is done.

One thing that helped me out with the weeding of the iron on glitter vinyl was the Ottlite LED Light Box and Task Lamp. I bought it because I wear eyeglasses and had a time trying to see the cuts on the vinyl. I used it today to finish up weeding the names and dates made with the vinyl. Worked great and I had it done in no time. Better then trying to guess or hope you got the right part that gets removed.

Ottlite LED Light Box and Task Lamp.

Here is a picture of one of my Singer sewing machines. This is a quantum stylist it is model 9970 it is in the Quantum family from Singer. This was an HSN find.

I am going to use straight stitch # one with my quarter inch foot to sew the pieces together.
Then to finish off the squares I am going to use straight stitch #8. I think that is the stitch in the ditch as I have a stitch in the ditch pressure foot. I will be checking my Singer instruction book for that information.

That is a bit of an update. See you all very soon with strips done and then really ready to get sewing.

Thanks for looking and reading if you have.

More fun with my Brother Scan N Cut

Hello All You Crafting folk,

Inspiration from Jo Foster♥

I have been having more fun with my Brother Scan N Cut. I have a fabulous usb drive created by Tattered lace called The Best of 2017. What The Best of 2017 is, it is a usb of the best die cutting dies that Tattered Lace created in 2017. Tattered Lace converted what they thought to be their best dies into SVG files to be cut on the Brother Scan N Cut die cutting machines. You can still purchase them as a die to be cut on a standard die cutting machine.

What my project was dressing up a plain sweat shirt style fleece lined hoody jacket. Cutting out a design in iron on glitter vinyl in red.  I used a design from the usb called Glass slipper. I kept it at its original size and then I also sized it down to a smaller size for the pocket. I then cut it out place it on my jacket and iron on the glitter vinyl following the directions.
Here is the result of my efforts.

While I had my Scan N Cut hot and ready I decided to do a 3d project. Still using svg files I went into my Cutting craftorium Christmas Volume 2 and finally made the snow man.
He is a good size about 19-20 inches tall with his top hat on.

I think I need to practice more on my creations of 3d items. As my snowman did not come out perfect. I am a perfectionist at heart. Now in my older years I am not as perfect as I always strive to be.
My philosophy is now who cares if it is perfect. It is unique and one of a kind.
I added a 3d flower a design from my Scan N Cut and I knitted the scarf myself with the only knitting stitch I know garter stitch. You can really do a lot of knitting with knowing just one stitch.

Without further ado here is Jon Snow-man

These are just some of my latest creations with my Brother Scan N Cut.
I will show more as I go along. I do have loads of pictures of past makes that will appear in my blog post.
For now happy crafting,
Fawna
